Is Your Data Secure?

It seeems that not a week goes by without a company admitting that it has experienced a security breach which has compromised the privacy of tens of thousands of consumers. With little exception, most of these crimes deal with credit information which is then sold on the black market and used by criminals to make fraudulent purchases. Such incidents should cause those of us who are responsible for protecting private information to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, "Is this data that we are obligated to protect secure?" .

Well, it's taken a little longer than expected. However, we are proud to finally publish our first issue of our new and improved Lancet eNews.

To you, our subscribers, we'd like to say thank you. We would like you to consider this newsletter your newsletter. And so, we encourage you to give us your feedback, comments and suggestions. Please let us know how we can make it better.

We have lots of ideas and will be trying them out in the coming months. For example, some of you have requested a tips and tricks column. So, each issue we'll include a tip or trick that will make your job a little bit easier.

After all, making your life (or at least your job) easier is what we're all about here at Lancet Technology, Inc.

Speaking of making things easier, have we told you about Project Greylock? Project Greylock is the top- secret code name for our next generation data solution which is scheduled to be released in early 2006 and which is guaranteed to make your data collection and reporting efforts easier.

In the coming months, we'll give you some sneak peaks by posting screenshots and and more detailed articles. In the meantime, read our press release here.

  • Q. How do I prevent my reports from being truncated?

Every now and then, a report will be too large to fit on a sheet of paper. I usually solve this by decreasing the number of columns in the report. However, I am wondering if there is a better way to resolve this?

    A. As is often the case with Lancet's data solutions, there is more than one way to skin the cat. In this instance, there are several.

As you guessed, reports are truncated when they are too large to print on the page. You can resolve this annoying problem by doing one of the following:

    • Change the layout to "Landscape" in the printer settings
    • Decrease the font size
    • Adjust the margins
    • (In multivariable reports only) Shorten the "Column Titles" in the "Variable Details" section.
